Bethlehem, Pennsylvania is located in the eastern part of the state, near Allentown and Philadelphia. Bethlehem was a mission community founded in 1741 by David Nitschmann and Count Nicolaus von Zinzendorf, who were leading a small group of Moravians. The city of Bethlehem is divided into four areas: Center City, West Side, East Side, and South Side.
 
During the industrial revolution, Bethlehem was a hotspot for heavy industry and trade. The Bethlehem Steel Corporation was once the second-largest steel producer behind U.S. Steel, which was based in Pittsburgh. Bethlehem Steel was also one of the largest shipbuilding companies. The company supplied armor plate and ordnance products during World Wars I and II and also manufactured 1,100 warships. The company closed in 1995.
 
The Bethlehem Area School District operates over 20 schools. Bethlehem provides opportunities for higher education at Lehigh University, Moravian College, and the International Institute for Restorative Practices.

The Sands Casino Resort Bethlehem has 89 table games and over 3,000 slot machines. 35 parks, six public pools, two public golf courses, a dog park, and a world-class skateplaza give plenty of excuses to spend time outdoors. Bethlehem also hosts numerous festivals year round. Over 80 restaurants and bars are in downtown Bethlehem alone. Dine out during the city’s Winter and Summer weeks, where patrons enjoy fixed-price lunch and dinner menus.
